From pension affidavit: "While in a skirmish fight with the enemy near Spotsylvania Courthouse he
received two wounds one in the shoulder and one in the knee he was carried to the Hospital at Richmond Virginia his
arm was taken off at the shoulder joint he lived three days and died on about the 18th day of May 1864."
