  Alvin James "Boy" Corley Notes

Email from Wanda Snyder - August 9, 2004

I talked to Susan "Ophelia" (Corley) Gilbert this afternoon. She and Mom are 1st cousins. Ophelia was mentioning that she had heard about the info on the Simpson murder on the website and was talking about how she enjoyed reading what was there. Ophelia grew up and went to school with the Simpson children and knew all of Alexander, Sr.'s children - in fact, she named them while we were talking - quite a memory.

Ophelia says that she can remember Aunt Mamie Corley (her husband was Alvin Corley - called "Boy Corley" in the court transcripts) holding her up so that she could see Joe Simpson in his casket. She also knew the preacher who presided at the funeral - Elias "Walker" Davis. He lived in the old Cruce homeplace on what is now called Club Drive near the intersection of Pleasant Hill Rd. Club Drive is where William Penn Simpson's last farm was located.

Anyway, just an interesting little tidbit - thought that I would pass it on.

Take care,

        Wanda
