Norcross, Gwinnett County, Georgia at age 35, and was buried in Norcross Tow n Cemetery.
General Notes: Margaret's death was
most likely due to complications delivering her last son, David A., born August
7, 1890. She died on August 18, 1890. The young son died shortly
thereafter on September 20. The 1880 census states that Margaret is 25
which would have her being born between 1854-1855. Her grave marker gives
her birth date as October 6, 1854. Margaret's grandparents William and
Elizabeth Hunter arrived from Ireland aboard the sloop "William" in
Charlestown, South Carolina in 1828 with their two sons, William and James, and two
daughters, Mary and Elizabeth . Margaret's mother, Elizabeth, was born in
July 1827 therefore she was approximately one year old when her family arrived
in Charlestown.

Georgia. James was born on 24 May 1852 in Chattooga County, Georgia, died on
27 Sep 1914 in Duluth, Gwinnett County, Georgia at age 62, and was buried in Norcross Town Cemetery.

Cook married Margaret Hunter January 16, 1873 in Georgia. He was a
blacksmith in the Pinckneyville area of Gwinnett County during the period of
1874 to 1900+.
2. In the census of 1880 (Volume
11, E.D. 118, Sheet 3, Line 11) James Anderson and Margaret Cook are living in
the Pinckneyville District of Gwinnett County Georgia with the following
children: son, John R., age 6; son, E (Edward), age 4; son James Howell,
age 2; and daughter, J. (Jane) Annie, age 7 months. They also had a hired
hand living with them. It is Interesting that James A. Cook's siblings
were named John, Edward and Anne, the same as his first two sons and first
daughter.

3. In the census of 1900 James A.
is reported to own his own house without any mortgage. Margaret bore him nine
children before dying due, most likely, to complications with giving birth to
her last child (died 11 days after the birth). In this census four of his
children by his first marriage, Walter (18), Riley (16), Ida(13) and Ruth (11)
are still living at home as well as four children of his marriage with Anna,
Maggie (7), Mattie (5), Esther (3), and Ellen (8 months).

After his first wife Margaret died,
James married her sister Sarah Rosanna Elizabeth (Anna) on December 21,
1890. To my knowledge Anna bore him four children, all girls.
Margaret and Anna Haynie's father was born in South Carolina, their mother
Elizabeth Hunter Haynie was born in Ireland.
James Anderson Cook and Margaret Cook
along with their son David and their son Walter Franklin Cook, his wife
(Tallulah Morgan Cook) and young son (James Riley) are buried in the Norcross
town cemetery. Adjacent to their grave sites are Margaret's parents,
David W. Haynie and Elizabeth Hunter Haynie in a Haynie family plot. Also
buried in an adjacent plot is Rosanna Haynie Cook, James Anderson Cook's second
wife, and one of James and Rosanna's daughters Ellen Palmyra Cook. Continuing
down from that plot in the next adjacent plot is a third sister,
Eliza Haynie Bolton, one of her daughters and three graves with rock markers
without identification. James Anderson Cook owned and operated a
blacksmith shop in Norcross from the mid 1870s to sometime before 1910.
In the 1910 census he and his family had moved to Duluth where he owned another
blacksmith shop. Several of his sons joined him in the blacksmith
business. I am told that James Anderson's blacksmith and wagon shop in Duluth had a
sign saying "James A. Cook and Sons." At least two of
his sons, James Howell and Walter Franklin joined him in the blacksmith
business on a permanent basis. James Howell continued the blacksmith
business in Duluth after his father died. Walter Franklin Cook died
at age 29 in 1911.

The child from this marriage was:
43 F i. Cora Lamar
was born between Jun 1876 and May 1877 in Gwinnett County, Georgia and died between Oct 1909 and 1910 about age 33.
General Notes: The C. may have been for
Cora. A Cora Lamar married Hilliard Rawlins in Gwinnett County in 1900. Rosannah Haynie Cook
reported in the 1910 census that she had given birth
to five children, four who were living. Since her four daughters with James A.
Cook were living, I can only presume that Cora Lamar, her first daughter had
died previous to 1910. Cora married Hilliard Rawlins, son of William
Jack Rawlins and Frances Clementine Donaldson, in 1900 in Gwinnett County,
Georgia. Hilliard was born on 5 Jan 1880 in Gwinnett County, Georgia and died on
12 Sep 1909 in Snellville, Gwinnett County, Georgia at age 29.

Sarah next married James Anderson
Cook, son of Jesse Cook and Penelope Coneway, on 21 Dec 1890
in Norcross, Gwinnett County, Georgia. James was born on 24 May 1852 in Chattooga County, Georgia,
died on 27 Sep 1914 in Duluth, Gwinnett County, Georgia at age 62, and was buried in Norcross Town Cemetery.
General Notes: 1. James Anderson
Cook married Margaret Hunter January 16, 1873 in Georgia. He was a
blacksmith in the Pinckneyville area of Gwinnett County during the period of 1874 to 1900+.

After his first wife Margaret died,
James married her sister Sarah Rosanna Elizabeth (Anna) on December 21,
1890. To my knowledge Anna bore him four children, all girls.
Margaret and Anna Haynie's father was born in South Carolina, their mother
Elizabeth Hunter Haynie was born in Ireland. James Anderson Cook and
Margaret Cook along with their son David and their son Walter Franklin Cook,
his wife (Tallulah Morgan Cook) and young son (James Riley) are buried in the
Norcross town cemetery. Adjacent to their grave sites are Margaret's
parents, David W. Haynie and Elizabeth Hunter Haynie in a Haynie family
plot. Also buried in an adjacent plot is Rosanna Haynie Cook, James
Anderson Cook's second wife, and one of James and Rosanna's daughters Ellen
Palmyra Cook. Continuing down from that plot in the next adjacent
plot is a third sister, Eliza Haynie Bolton, one of her daughters and three
graves with rock markers without identification.
James Anderson Cook owned and operated
a blacksmith shop in Norcross from the mid 1870s to sometime before 1910.
In the 1910 census he and his family had moved to Duluth where he owned another
blacksmith shop. Several of his sons joined him in the blacksmith
business. I am told that James Anderson's blacksmith and wagon shop in Duluth had a sign saying "James A. Cook and Sons." At least two of
his sons, James Howell and Walter Franklin joined him in the blacksmith
business on a permanent basis. James Howell continued the blacksmith
business in Duluth after his father died. Walter Franklin Cook died
at age 29 in 1911.

about five years with one child when he died.
2. The record of John R Cook's marriage
was obtained from the Gwinnett County Probate Court. He and Effie May
Allen were issued a marriage license on June 6 and married on June 10, 1906 by
Reverend Wiley W. Owens, the same minister that married his brother Edward and
Annie Hurt in 1903.

John married Effie May Allen,
daughter of Daniel A. Allen and Martha A. Unknown, on 10 Jun 1906
in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Effie was born in May 1885 in Georgia and died in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

i. George E. Cook was born on 2 Apr 1907 in Buford, Gwinnett County, Georgia and died in Jul 1986 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia at age 79.
36. James Howell Cook (Margaret
Ann Haynie 2, David Williamson 1) was born on 15 Oct
1878 in Pinckneyville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, died on 8 Apr 1925 in Duluth,
Gwinnett County, Georgia at age 46, and was buried in Duluth Methodist
Cemetery.
General Notes: James
Howell Cook joined his father in the blacksmith business. He owned a
blacksmith shop in Duluth all of his adult life. The shop was near the Methodist Church
right off main street in Duluth. Several of his sons helped out in the shop in
their teenage years but none stayed in the business after graduating from high
school. He and his family were members of Duluth Methodist Church and were faithful
attendees. In 1910 the James H. Cook family lived in a
house near James Anderson Cook. James Anderson Cook lived up on a hill with
James Howell on one side of him and the Charles Gresham family on the other
side. James Howell's half-sister Margaret married one of the Gresham boys, Carl and
his brother William Riley married Myrtle Lena Gresham.
It was my misfortune to be born many
years after my grandfather died therefore I never knew him, but I do have fond
memories of my grandmother Cook.
It is interesting to me that my
grandfather James Howell and his sister Jane Annie applied for their marriage
licenses on the same day, December 5, 1899 and they were married in a double
wedding ceremony performed by the Reverend J. W. Haney on December 24,
1899. This indicates to me that they must have had a very close
relationship. Jane married William Castleberry Coker and they named one
of their sons Howell after her brother and another Anderson after her father.
