Letter from James to his Sister

This quote is taken from a letter
written to Lucinda Caroline Hunter by her brother James Z. Branscomb. The
letter was written May 8, 1863 just after the battle at Chancellorsville.
That letter is one of 56 that were written by James to the folks back home in Union Springs, Alabama. All
of his letters are included in a book, “Dear Sister,
Civil War Letters to a Sister in Alabama” which was published in 2003 by Branch
Springs Publishing. Frank A. Chappell, the great-great grandson of
Lucinda Hunter found the letters and published the book. Copies are
