Know Ye that I William Keen Cnior [sic] of the County of Fairfax in the State
of Virginia Farmer For the Love and affection I have and do bear to my son
Francis Keen of the said County and State aforesaid and for his better
advancements & maintenance and for and in consideration of the sum of six
shillings to me the said William Keen in hand paid and for divers other good
couses and Considerations him thereunto moveing Hath Given granted and
Confirmed and by these presents Doth fully freely and Absolutely Give Grant and
Confirm unto my said Son Francis Keen In his actual surin [?] and possession
now being - the said Tract or parcel of Land and premises whereon he now lives
Situate lying and being in the said County of Fairfax and on the Dreans of the
North and middle Runs of Pohick containing one hundred acres be the same more
or less Together with all the houses Edefices Buildings yards Gardens Orchards
Woods ways waters water cources Easements Profits Commodities Advantages
Heredetaments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises belonging or in
any ways appertaining thereunto and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and
Remainders Rents Issues and Profits thereof To Have and to Hold the tract or
parcel of Land and all and Singular the premises aforesaid with the
appurtenances unto the said Francis Keen his Heirs Executors Administrators or
Assigns forever. Also I do give and grant make over and confirm unto my said son
Francis Keen his Heirs and Assigns forever, One Negro Girl named Clary and her
increase, To hold to the said Francis Keen his Heirs Executors Administrators
and Assigns as his proper Slave forever.

Theodorick Lee to Francis Keene, both of

This Indenture made this Seventeenth Day of June
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six Between Theodorick
Lee of the County of Fairfax of the one part and Francis Keene of the County of Fairfax
of the other part. Whereas by a certain Indenture made the 12th dau of January 1805 and now of Record in
the County Court of Fairfax between Ferdinando Fairfax of the County of
Jefferson of the one part and John D. Orr a certain Tract of Land calledBelvoir
lying in the said County of Fairfax on the Potomac about fourteen miles below
Alexandria for the purpose of securing to the said John D. Orr the payment of
thirty thousand Dollars Currency of the United States on or before the first
Day of January one thousand eight hundred and twelve together with Interest
thereon from the first day of January 1805 which said Interest was to be paid
on the first day of January in each year after the execution of the said
Indenture. And whereas the said Ferdinando Fairfax had Leased to Francis Keene
the said Tract of Land called Belvoir for a term of years at an annual rent to
be paid by the said Francis Keene and Whereas the said Ferdinando Fairfax after
making the Lease aforesaid towit on the Sixth day of June one thousand eight
hundred and six by his Agreement duly sealed and executed, did for the
considerations therein mentioned, Did Give, Grant and Assign to the said John
D. Orr his Heirs Executors, Adm'ors and Assigns the right and Title to receive
annually when due at the end of each year for seven years from the first day of
January 1805 Eighteen hundred Dollars out of the said Francis Keene's annual
Rent under his said Lease applying the same in discharge of the annual Interestarising
upon the said Fairfax's Bond to the said Orr for Thirty thousand Dollars
secured by Mortgage on the Belvoir Estate as aforesaid. And whereas the said
John D. Orr on the 15th day of May 1806 by his certain Intendure duly executed
did assign to the said Theodorick Lee five thousand pounds of the debt secured
to him by the said Ferdinando Fairfax as aforesaid in consequence whereof he
the said Theodorick Lee became entitled to the annual sum of one thousand
Dollars to be paid by the said Francis Keene on account of his Rent aforesaid.
And whereas the said John D. Orr in persuance of the said Deed of Agreement on
the 10th day of June in the year aforesaid, by his certain writing duly
subscribed did assign all his right and Title to the annual Rent of one
thousand Dollars to be paid to him by the said Francis Keene as aforesaid being
the annual Interest of the said sum of L5000 assigned to the said Theodorick
Lee as aforesaid. Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said Theodorick Lee
for and in consideration of the sum of six Thousand Dollars to him in hand paid
by the said Francis Keen at and before the ensealing and delivery of these
presents the Receipt whereof the said Theodorick Lee doth hereby acknowledge
Hath assigned Transfered and Set over and by these presents Doth Assign,
Transfer and set over unto the said Francis Keen his Executors Administrators
and assigns the said annual sum of one Thousand Dollars for the term of six
years commencing from the first day of January last past and the said
Theodorick Lee for himself his Heirs Executors and Administrators Doth Release
Acquit and discharge the said Francis Keen his Heirs Executors Administrators
and Assigns from the annual payment of one thousand Dollars of his Rent
aforesaid for the term of six years commencing from the first day of January
last past as aforesaid. In Witness whereof the said Theodorick Lee hath
hereunto set his hand and affixed his Seal the day and year first before
written.

January 1807 This Deed from Theodorick Lee to Francis Keene was proved to be
the act and deed of the said Theodorick Lee by the oath of Thomas Swann a
witness hereto and ordered to be certified. And at a Court continued and held
for the said County the 20th day of January 1807 the same was further proved by
the oaths of William Gunnell Junr and Spencer Jackson witnesses thereto and
ordered to be recorded.

Lewis Summers to Francis Keene, 15 June 1808:
This Indenture made this fifteenth day of June
in the Year One Thousand eight hundred & eight Between Lewis Summers of the
County of Fairfax and Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part & Francis
Keene of the same county & State of the other part, Witnesseth that the
said Lewis Summers for and in Consideration of the sum of Twelve Hundred
Dollars lawfull Money to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth hereby
acknowledge and as will more fully appear by reference to an agreement entered
into between the said Lewis Summers and a certain James Waugh Junr. dated the
twenty first day of November in the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred & one
for the land hereafter granted & demised & which said agreement that
been since assigned by the said James Waugh Junr to the said Francis Keene hath
granted, bargained & sold and by these presents Do bargain & sell unto
the said Francis Keene his Heirs & assigns a certain tract or parcel of
land situate lying and being upon the upper side of Bull run in the County of
Fairfax in the State aforesaid containing one hundred & sixty six acres be
the same more or less and bounded as follows: Viz: beginning at the Mouth of a
branch called Johny More at a marked black walnut tree standing on the bank of
the lower side of the Mouth of said branch being a corner tree to a tract of
land formerly taken up by a certain John Waugh and extending along his line
North Twenty eight degrees east two Hundred & twenty six poles to a saml
red oak on the side of a Stony Hill in the said Waugh's line Thence West one
hundred & Twenty poles to a smal Hickory & box oak on the side of a
stony Hill, Thence South seventeen degrees West thirty poles, wnating nine
links to a smal black oak on a levell thence South fifty two degrees West one
hundred & forthy poles to a white oak on the Side of Bull run from thence
down the said run the several Courses & Meanders thereof to the first
station & is the same tract of land which George Summers and Ann Smith
Summers his wife by Deed bearing date the fifteenth day of February in the year
one Thousand eight hundred conveyed to the said Lewis Summers as reference
being had thereunto will more full appear. To Have and To Hold ....

This Indenture made this Seventeenth dau of
October in the Year of our Lord one Thousand eight Hundred & Eight between
Richard Bland Lee and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Fairfax & State
of Virginia of the one part and Francis Keene of the same County & State of
the other part: Whereas the said Francis Keene did by indenture dated the 29th
Day of June in the year eighteen hundred and six convey unto Richard Bland Lee
his heirs & assigns forever a tract of land in the said County of Fairfax
on Pohick run bounded and Described in said Deed as follows; Beginning at a
stake on a hill side where there has formerly been a marked red oak running So
55 degrees W 135 poles to a white oak corner to Keene & Simpson passing a
white oak, corner of the land the said Keene purchased of Nicholas Keene at 45
poles thence So 21 degrees W 65 poles to a Spanish oak and dogwood Simpson's
corner Thence So 62 degrees E 80 poles to a red oak Thence So 85 degrees E 165
poles to a Stake said to be Violets corner Thence N 4 degrees W 113 poles to
Box aok & Gum sapling in the line of Roberts the elder thence with said
Roberts now Violets line So 49 degrees E 48 poles to marked maple & Gum on
the head of a branch of Pohick thence down the said branch of Pohick &
binding Therewith to Pohick run thence up the sid run with the meanders thereof
to two white oaks corner to Roberts & Beavers at the mouth of a small
branch just below James Keene's Mill thence So 78 degrees W 162 poles to the
line of William Keene the land he purchased of the aforesaid Nicholas Keene
thence to the beginning containing three hundred & fifty acres and whereas
the said Richard Bland Lee and Elizabeth are desierous of reconveying the
above described land to the said Francis Keene: Now this indenture Witnesseth
that the said Raichard Bland Lee and Elizabeth his wife on condition of the sum
of five Dollars to the said Richard Bland Lee in hand paid the receipt whereof
he doth hereby acknowledge and of other good considerations; Have granted
bargained and Sold aliened & Confirmed and by these presents Do grant
bargain & Sell alien & Confirm unto the said Francis Keene his Heirs
& Assigns forever all the right Title and interest of the said Richard
Bland Lee and Elizabeth his wife to the above described tract or parcel of land
TO Hold the said Francis Keene his Heirs & Assigns forever and the said
Richard Bland Lee for himself his Heirs executors and Administrators unto the
said Francis Keene his heirs & assigns all the Right Title and Interest of
him the said Richard Bland Lee and Elizabeth his wife on and to the above
described piece or Tract of Land Doth and will forever warrant and defend
againstclaim and Demand of all & every person or persons claiming by from
through or under him. In Testimony whereof the said Richard Bland Lee and
Elizabeth his wife have hereunto st their hands and Seals the day & Year first
before written.

1809 This Deed from Richard B. Lee to Francis Keene was proved to be the Act
& Deed of the said Richard B. Lee by the oaths of James Waugh and George
Summers witnesses hereto & ordered to be certified. And at a Court held
for the said county the 20th February 1809 the same was furhter proved by the oath of Richard Ratcliffe
another witness hereto and ordered to be Recorded
Teste Wm. Moss Wood Co., W. Va., Francis Keene dies
on 20 August 1824 and is buried in the Lewis-Keene Cemetery.

Know all men by these presents that we Thompson
Simpson, Richard S. Windsor and Benjamin Burke are held firmly bound unto
Richard Ratcliffe, James L. Triplett, james Sangster and Richard C. Mason
gentlemen justices of the County of Fairfax now sitting in the sum of five
thousand dollars to which payment will and truely to be made to the said
justices their heirs and successors, we bind ourselves and each of us, our and
each of our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by
these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this 15th day of November 1824
- The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound
Thompson Simpson who has this day been chosen and appointed guardian to Matilda
Keene his heirs, executors and administrators do and shall well and truely pay
unto the said orphan all such estate and estates as now or hereafter shall or
may come to the hands or possession of him the said Thompson Simpson, as soon
as the said orphan shall attain to lawfull age or when thereto required by the
County Court of Fairfax, shall will and truely save harmless and indemnify the
said Justices their heirs and Successors from all trouble and damage that shall
or may arise about the estate, then the above obligation to be void, else to
remain in full force and virtue in law.

In obedience to an order of the County Court of
Fairfax dated ___[blank]___ and hereto annexed I met James Keene one of the
representatives of the said William Keenes decd. and from the vouchers and
exhibits to me produced have stated the above account the vouchers so far as
they go are not legal as could be wished. F. Keene is now dead and from
Memorandums made by him it appears there none other claims on the Estate
besides those now allowed & charged the 2nd & 3rd vouchers no receipt.
A larger Sum claimed but a selection of those Items appearing reasonable have
been made & allowed but having no other authority for any other charges
they are excluded. I find there ought to be in the hand the Sum of
$2290.44-3/4 Subject to distribution among the Several representatives Some of
which have been paid in part, as appears from the memo aforesaid. the Same
respectfully Submitted by

At a Court Continued and held for Fairfax County the 23rd day of June
1830. The Estate account of William Keene with Francis Keene the admor. was
this day presented to the Court by the Commissioner appointed to State and
Settle the same which is received by the court and ordered to be filed and lie
until the next court for exceptions. And at a Court Continued and held for the
said County the 22nd day of June 1831. The same was again presented to the
Court and no exceptions having been filed thereto and the Said account having
been duly examined by the Court is allowed and ordered to be recorded.

Ratcliffe, THomas Coffer, Richard S. Windsor & Francis Coffer or any three
are hereby appointed to divide the slaves left by the late James Keene deceased
and make report to the court.

in obedience to an order of the County Court of
Fairfax dated Nov. 1833 (and hereto annexed) as well, by the wish, and desire
of the several heirs of the said James Keene dec'd, we have proceeded to a
division of the slaves of the said dec'd in manner following. 1st we find that
Eli Keene one of the heirs has had in advancements the sum of $467.70. That
Oliver Keene has had $803.52. That William Beck who married one of the
daughters and heirs has had $815.75 making the sum total of
$ 2086.97
We find the slaves valued,which the heirs agreed
to 4400.00

It is understood there is to be no apportionment
at presnet of the amounts received as above, but that those who have received
the lesser sum, shall be made equal before or in the next division of proceeds

James Keen Deceased.
[Note: I am not transcribing the inventory and
Appraisement. The total amount appraised came to $788.68-3/4. Negroes named
were Bob, Charles, Sam, George, John, Frank, Henderson, Charles, Washington, Henry, Rachel &
child Mary, Matilda, Sinar & child Albert, Fanny, Townsend and Harriet.
They were valued at $5158.]
In pursuance of an order of the County Court of
Fairfax hereto annexed we have proceeded to inventory and appraise all and
singular the Estate of James Keene deceased presented to our view and do hereby
Certify that the foregoing Inventory is strictly Correct. Given under our

In the name of God Amen I James Keene of the
County of fairfax State of Va being concerned and knowing of the uncertainty of
human life do hereby ordain this my last will and testament at my departure of
soul and body. I recommend my soul to him who gave it my body to be interred
in christian like form and as to my worldly estate wherewith the Lord hath
blessed me I appoint in the form and manner following - First of all I do
firmly appoint Colo. Silas Burke now administrator of my father James Keene
Estate to be my Lawful administrator and he to have my personal property duly
appraised and done according to law it sold my debts which are few paid and
fully discharged the remainder of my estate which consists in several slaves
namely Charles George Rachel and Mary I do will and bequeath those servants
with the remainder of my effects unto my beloved brother Oliver and him alone
to dispose of in any form and manner as he may think best the remainder of my
personal property's value which will be in the admr. hands will also be given
to him and his heirs forever - In testimony whereof I set my hand & affix
my seal this twenty third day of January one thousand eight hundred and thirty

At a Court held for Fairfax County in the 15th
day of February 1834 [looks more like 1836, but I think it must be 1834] This
last will & Testament of james Keene was this day presneted to the Court
and the same being proved by the oaths of William & Thompson Keene to be
wholy in the handwriting of the said Testator is admitted to probate.
