Will of William Roger Simpson


State of Tennessee May the 8th 1866
Giles County


I Roger Simpson being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament ____ all former wills made by me.

Item 1st I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret Simpson all of my stock of cattle hogs and horses of every description and all of my house hold and kitchen furniture of every description and my plantation and farming utensils of every description , I will to her, her natural life.

Item 2nd, I will and bequeath to my son John F Simpson One hundred acres of hill lands commencing at the beginning which is at Two Hickory's John N B James Smith next corner Thence each eighty five poles to a hickory stump another said James corner continuing on until he gets the one hundred acres I now will him And I also will and bequeath to my son John F Simpson fifty one acres of land adjoining my homestead is the land I purchased from Eliab Vinson beginning on a Black Walnut on said Nelson line which I have a deed for describing said land fully which I will that he have full possession of at my death.

Item 3rd, I will and bequeath that the balance of my hill land adjoiniing the one hundred acres I have willed my son John and the homestead that I leave my beloved wife be sold and equally divided between my other children Except John D Boswell and James T Boswell grandchildren, which I will and bequeath to each of them , John D Boswell and James T Boswell one hundred dollars each which I give them to be their share of my estate.

Item 4th, I will and bequeath that Martha A Taylor and William S Whitfield and John W Whitfield my three grandchildren and hiers of my deceased daughter Polly Whitfield be equal heirs in my estate in the final settlement of my estate.

Item 5th , I will and bequeath that the parishable property that I have willed my beloved wife of every description after the death of my beloved wife be sold and equally divided among my heirs at law Except the Boswell Boys which I have willed one hundred dollars to each one of them which is all I intend on giving them.

Item 6th, I nominate and appoint my son John F Simpson the executor of this my last will and testament ______ all other made by me in _______ e p

I assign my name and affix my seal this the 8th day of May 1866
