Will of Shapleigh Neale

In the name of God amen the eight day of June one thousand seven hundred & seventy seven I SHAPLEIGH NEALE of the County of Fairfax in Virginia being very sick and weak in Body, but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God therefore Calling unto mind the mortality of the body and Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give & recommend my soul into the Hands of almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same by the mighty power of God. And Touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to Bless one in this life, I give Devise & dispose of the same in the following manner & Form

First I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife MARY NEAL Eight Negro's and their Increas Known by the names of HANNAH, GEORGE, RACHAEL, MILLY, MINTY, JAMES (or SAMES), EASTER, ROBIN, these Eight Negro's to her and at her disposal forever and likewise one negro named JEAN during her natural Life and then the above Jean to be Divided between my Brother DANIEL NEAL and RICHARD NEAL and my Sister JEMIMA GUNNELL. I leave JACK to be sold by my Executors to be divided between my Brother Daniel Neal Richard Neal and my Sister Jemima Gunnell & the Fourth part to be divided between Mr. WISHARTs three Daughters MARGARET WISHART JEAN WISHART CHARLOTTE WISHART. I give to my beloved wife a Horse called BUCK,

ITEM I Leave all my stock to be sold and my Beloved wife to have as much as to remove her over to her Friends and all the rest applied to my Just Debts if any above should remain to my beloved wife all the Household Furniture and to her forever.

ITEM it is my will and desire that my Plantation that I now live on to be laid in wheat at the Faul and sold and the Cash arising to my beloved wife Mary Neal forever.

ITEM I give my wearing apparell to Richard Neals son RICHARD & GEORGE.

I Likewise constitute make & ordain my beloved wife Mary Neal & ROBERT BOGGESS my Executors of this my last Will & Testament as Witness my hand & seal.

At a Court held for the County of Fairfax 18th August 1777 --
This Will was presented in Court by Mary Neal Executrix herein named who made oath thereto and the same being proved by the oath of Robert Boggess & Isaac Gates is admitted to record and the said Executrix having performed what the Laws require a Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
