WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN FIELD
Mrs. R.C. Mitchell,
Postmistress of Pittman, is Victim of Heart Trouble - Norcross, GA., February 2
- Mrs. R. C. Mitchell, postmistress of Pittman, a small settlement 3 miles
above here, was found dead in the field last Thursday afternoon. She was
nearly seventy years old.
She prepared a
remedy for cancer, having prepared her remedy for many in various sections of
the country. She left her house about 10 o'clock going out in the field near
by to gather some weeds which entered into the remedy she made, and after
gathering a quantity of the herb started back to the house and had come within
a few hundred yards of her home when death came suddenly.
She had been
complaining of feeling some pains for some time, but was not confined to the
house, but went about her affiars as usual. Some heart affection was the
probable cause.
About 4 o'clock p.m. her daughter-in-law, who lived with her, discovered her lying across a
path, leading to the field, dead.
She was a native of
Walton County. Her maiden name was Moon. Her first husband was a Moon. By
this union there were five children, three of whom survive her. They are Mrs.
William Simpson of Albertville; Mrs. J.J. Humphries of Norcross; Mrs. Mattie
Martin of Atlanta. Her second marriage was to Wilse Mitchell. The children
by this marriage who survive her are Jim Mitchell of Norcross; Mrs. Susan Gill,
of Atlanta; and Fred Mitchell of Pittman. All the surviving children were at
the funeral.
She had been a
member of the Baptist church for more than fifty years.
She was buried at Mount
Carmel cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.L. Mills.
