Onilas Lee Simpson

BURLINGTON - Onilas Marie Simpson, 90, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the Hospice Home. She was 90 years plus two days, celebrating her birthday at Hospice Home with her family.

Marie retired from Barbee Fabrics after 38 years when the shop closed. Being a very strong willed, independent and hard working woman she also worked at Sears and Walmart into her eighties, never one to stay home and "PIDDLE" as she was so fond of saying. She was an excellent seamstress and interior designer and loved the feel of fabric and what could be created with the many colors and textures. Draperies were her specialty at the fabric shop and many are still "hanging" in people's homes today. She was a self-taught seamstress, making her daughters clothes when they were young. Sewing was in her DNA and she loved it dearly.

Survivors include her daughters, Junie Marie (Don) Petty, Becky (James) Cobb; grandson, Donald N. (Candy) Petty II; granddaughter, Christy (Robert) Carmany; great-grandchildren, Erin, Scott, Christopher and Alie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Junius" Simpson; brother, H.B. Lee, Jr.; sister, Peggie Rackley; mother, Delphia Lee; and father, Herbert Boyd Lee, Sr.

The service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015, at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. is assisting the Simpson family.
